Planning on heading to Central Florida in the near future? Leaving the reservation and taking the clan to Disney? Great idea! We know it’s not the easiest thing in the world to pick up stakes and drag everyone around in the old soccer van. The smell of adolescence climbs forth from the backseat, coupled with the terrified shrieks of younger siblings suggesting that they are, in fact, being touched with someone’s spit hand. Gross. Ed. note-the children that accompanied the travel team were not badly behaved. I’ve seen worse. Most of my references to complaining children came from observing others as they walked by screaming at their parents. Hilarious.
Recently, our travel team was invited to a day at EPCOT. Disney’s technology and foreign culture themed park is sure-fire fun day for everyone. Interactive, hands-on exhibits and educational rides are a treat for kids of all ages. If you are looking for thrill rides such as Space Mountain or even the log flume, head to Cinderella’s castle and save yourself the hassle. EPCOT is more about taking your time and enjoying the slower rides.
Three Tips For Surviving The Park In Summer
- Get Inside-Of course nothing is going to keep you from sweating if you decide to go to a park in the summer. It was literally one-hundred and fifty degrees on the day we went, but that’s when the tots are out of school. Plan out your direction so that you don’t have to loop back and repeat your steps. Start on one side and see how little you actually have to go outside. It’s possible. This is going to serve you as long as you’re in the front of the park. Once you gravitate to the World Showcase, just walk slowly and listen to the cacophony of whining kids tell their parents they are displeased. It’s a fun version of cultural bingo. The winner observes and checks off the most kids from different countries complaining loudly about whatever.
- Mexico- At the entrance to the World Showcase is the country of Mexico. Unlike the real country, this complex is completely inside and remains a balmy 75 degrees all year, day and night. We stopped and enjoyed some deliciously authentic Mexican cuisine before joining a Three Caballeros on a slow boat ride through Old Mexico. If you move slowly enough, you may be able to stay comfortably inside the Mayan temple for the better part of the day.
- Stay Wet- Although there are no water rides, there are multiple ways to keep cool. Refreshments are everywhere in the park so you never have to walk far before coming to another stand selling ice cream, water sprayers, or your beverage of choice.
Remember, you drove, you paid for the room and tickets to the park. Don’t let them complain about how they don’t like standing in lines or they want to go back to the pool. They don’t even have jobs. Remind them that no one wants to listen to their complaints. Disney parks are magical places that allow us to leave reality and journey into a fairyland paradise. It has no place for complaining children.
