Vacationing In Roatan Honduras

Vacationing In Roatan Honduras. Cancel that trip to Canada! They are scraping the ice off their windshields as we speak. It’s 83 degrees in the winter jungle and you need to be traveling to Central America right now and making Honduras your next vacation destination. It’s green, beautiful, and totally affordable considering the friendliness and customer service. Fly there for under $300 and call me a liar.

5 Vacationing In Roatan Honduras Spots

San Pedro Sula: This coastal city houses, along with Tegucigalpa, one of the two international airports and is a perfect jumping-off point for La Ceiba or Roatan. Like most big Central American cities, it’s crowded and busy, so you must get out of town as soon as possible. If you are wondering whether to rent a car or be chauffeured, visit this article on Driving in Honduras. It just might save your life.

Puerto Cortez is a bustling port city with beautiful beaches and plenty to keep you busy. It’s always prudent to carry around extra documents showing who you are but if a police officer asks you for identification, don’t give them an expired license. If this happens you will have to go to the police station to receive your ticket. There’s nothing less amazing than a police station in a foreign country. After that, you will be asked to find a local bank where you can pay for the ticket and then return to the station to tie things up with a little bow. It can quickly get very expensive. Remember to trek lightly. Start small and grow.

Consider taking the beach road from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba, through the Garifuna community. These are mixed-race descendants of West African, Central African, Island Carib, and Arawak people. Since 1797 the Garifuna people have been living in Central America, where they speak the Garifuna language. They mostly live along the Caribbean Coast of Honduras, but there are also smaller populations in Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

Vacationing In Roatan Honduras

Roatan: As the rises over the Caribbean Sea and the Bay of Honduras, the small island of Roatan rises out of the morning mist. There’s no rush getting to the dock because the ride is utterly amazing. Every hidden cay on the island welcomes new friends and adventures. Check out this article on The West End of Roatan, Honduras, and find your way to a premier tiki hut.

From the West End to the Coxen Hole, everyone on Roatan seems to be having more fun than everyone else. Get ready for some of the finest fishing, diving, and socializing you’ve ever known. One of the best ways to get to Rotan is by cruise ship. Visit Norwegian’s website and follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

Copan Ruinas: Cruising west toward the Guatemalan border, you pass through the sleepy town of Copan Ruinas. It sits only a couple of kilometers from the Mayan Ruins of Copan and offers a perfect launch pad for the “Vienna of the Mayan world”. Brightly colored scarlet macaws perch in the low branches of its covered entrance. Even if you’re not into Mayan archaeology, the colonial town is friendly and small and there are numerous, virtually unspoiled, nature walks in the nearby vicinity which offer breathtaking views of the Copan River valley. You’ll need to be on the road less traveled to get there, and when you arrive, you’ll understand why you took the trip.

Vacationing In Roatan Honduras

La Ceiba: Known as the tourist capital of Honduras, due to its beach lifestyle, nightlife, and numerous parks and recreational areas in and around the city. Another factor contributing to the city’s tourism is the city port which provides ferry services to the Bay Islands, Islas de la Bahia, Útila, and Roatán. The area around La Ceiba has many parks and natural reserves. Its most popular natural area is the Pico Bonito (Beautiful Peak) National Park.

The park’s most recognized feature, Pico Bonito on the “Nombre de Dios” mountain range, rises to 2435 meters high and provides a perfect backdrop for the entire city. The Cangrejal River borders the eastern edge of the city and is popular for its Class III-IV river rafting. The Cuero and Salado Wildlife Refuge has wild manatees and is located a few miles to the west of the city.

Whether you decide to dangle along the Caribbean coast or venture deep into forgotten Mayan jungles, there’s something for everyone in Honduras. Don’t believe anything negative you might here about this place in terms of crime or political unrest. Most of those issues are kept in-house and don’t involve travelers who exercise a modicum of caution. Think of traveling abroad the way you would consider traveling in your own country. If it doesn’t seem like a place you should be visiting, then don’t. There are more than enough beautiful and fun destinations in Honduras to keep you plenty busy.
